Settings → Dependencies
This is the default screen when you open Settings. It's covered in full detail in Installing dependencies — this page is a quick reference.
Quick reference
- FFmpeg, FFprobe — video scanning and subtitle extraction. FFprobe installs automatically with FFmpeg.
- Whisper.cpp — AI transcription engine (has its own version/variant picker for your hardware).
- FFsubsync — powers Auto-Sync.
- Subtitle Edit (OCR) — Windows-only external tool used by an optional OCR shortcut right after extraction. It is not required for OCR in general — see the note below.
- mkvextract — optional, improves MKV extraction reliability.
Each card shows install status, a Download & Install / Update button, a folder-open icon to reveal its install location, and a delete icon (double-click pattern: click once to arm, click again within 3 seconds to confirm).
A "Storage Location" box at the bottom shows exactly where everything lives on disk.
Converting image-based subtitles (Blu-ray SUP, DVD VobSub) to text does not depend on this Subtitle Edit card at all. That conversion happens on the Convert screen, which uses its own bundled OCR engine — no external tool to install, and it works on both Windows and macOS.
