Extract
Extract lists the subtitle tracks inside your videos and saves the ones you choose as files beside each video. It copies what is in the video; it does not recognise speech or run OCR.
Adding videos and reading tracks
Click Add videos, or drop files or a folder anywhere on the window. Each video is scanned and shows its subtitle tracks with their language and format. A track already saved beside the video is marked Already beside the video. A video with no tracks says No subtitle tracks inside this video and offers Transcribe instead.
Search by file name in the header, and use Check all, Uncheck all and Remove all to manage the list. Extract keeps its own list, separate from Transcribe.
Choosing tracks
Tick the tracks you want, or use Select tracks… to select every track in a language across all the videos on screen — useful for pulling English from a whole season. Clear selection unticks them. Then click Extract; the button shows how many tracks are selected.
Extraction runs one video at a time. Each result is saved next to its video, with Show in folder to reveal it, Retry if it failed and Edit to open a text subtitle in the editor. Results stay on screen until you extract again or remove the file.
Text tracks and image tracks
Text subtitles come out as text files: SubRip as .srt and ASS as .ass.
Image subtitles come out as the images they are, and the completion message says so: Blu-ray (PGS) as a .sup file and DVD (VobSub) as a .sub and .idx pair. They have no text yet. The Convert button next to a finished image track opens the Convert screen, which reads them with OCR. Extraction never does OCR itself, so it always takes seconds, not minutes.
Why extraction is fast
Reading a track means reading the whole container, so on a network drive it is limited by the drive. For Matroska files made by mkvmerge or FFmpeg, the app reads only the subtitle blocks it needs through the file’s index, many at once — seconds where it used to take minutes. Any other file falls back to FFmpeg, and to mkvextract only for DVD subtitles the index cannot serve.
